Cyber Security and Privacy for Smart Cities

Abstract
As cities strive to maintain their economic growth and provide the civic infrastructure to its residents and businesses, they are increasingly turning to “smart solutions”. The resulting smart cities extensively use data and information, and exploit computing and information technologies in the operation of its physical infrastructure as well as social services, and in its economy and industries. However, this reliance on information and cyber systems also introduces a range of security and privacy problems for smart cities. This talk will present an introduction to these security challenges and describe the avenues for solutions. The talk will start with a description of the security and privacy challenges in smart cities and their unique characteristics resulting from the heterogeneity, scalability, and dynamics of smart cities. Next, the talk will provide an overview of smart city specific security solutions that have been proposed or developed by the academia and industry. Finally, the talk will conclude with a discussion of open issues and avenues for future research.About this Lecture
