Role of Network Virtualization in the Future Internet
Speaker: Ali Kashif Bashir – Manchester, United KingdomTopic(s): Networks and Communications
Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G are interrelated terminologies. Applications of IoT and cloud are producing big data that is being stored at data centers. In this talk, I will explain a framework that includes how technologies can participate in IoT paradigm and interact with each other for seamless connectivity and smooth operations at a bigger level.
Data centers acts as the backbone for cloud services. However, they are unable to handle the expansion in IoT traffic. Network virtualization was proposed to improve the capabilities of existing data centres in order to meet the growing traffic demands. However, for the realization of IoT, communication services should provide dynamic and flexible network function giving birth to the concept of Network Function Virtualization (NFV). We will discuss how NFV is going to play a vital role in the future internet. I will also explain research challenges of NFV and its interesting future applications in robotics, machine learning and smart cities.
