Industry 4.0: From SCADA to Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)

Abstract

This lecture has three main objectives:
- Provide an overview of current technologies in industrial applications
- Understanding how smart sensors solve the industry problems by moving towards industry 4.0
- The challenges and the future research directions of industrial internet of things and to what extend will it be able to work in different industrial fields

These objectives are described through a set of points including:
An Introduction to Wireless Sensing Technology, Industry 4.0, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Then, IIoT Models and Application Examples are described. Besides, IIoT Challenges and Future Investment are discussed to show the impact of using smart sensors in industry. Finally, An IIoT- SCADA Integration model is suggested to avoid the limitations of the traditional SCADA models.
