DDoS Attack Space in Cloud Computing
Speaker: Gaurav Somani – Ajmer, IndiaTopic(s): Security and Privacy
Abstract
In this talk, we will get to understand one of the important security breaches in modern networks, DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack and its impact on emerging cloud computing environments. This talk starts with the basics of the practical notions of both DDoS attacks and the cloud computing infrastructures. In addition, we discuss a number of recent DDoS attacks and statistics related to the attacks incidents and the losses incurred due to such DDoS attacks. We shall see a range of effects to the victim infrastructure due to such attacks and how cloud computing victims are affected. Later, we talk about a number of DDoS attack methods and attack types to understand the technical aspects of such attacks using their attack and threat models. From here, we would see a plethora of solutions with the help of solution taxonomy to involve the audience to understand a range of techniques employed by the researchers/industries to stop such attacks. In the last part of the lecture, we shall see some of the novel contributions made by us and our collaborators in this direction. The talk will end by giving a number of pointers towards the future work.About this Lecture
