Topic(s):  Security and Privacy

Abstract

In this talk, we give a practical overview of cloud computing infrastructures and virtualization technology. This involves, discussion related to server consolidation, formal model of a virtual machine monitor, and few example cases related to capacity planning. We discuss every fundamental resource such as CPU, memory, disk and the network on a computing machine and see in detail how virtualization can leverage better hardware utilization and scalability.  In this talk, we also see discussion related to VM migration, cloud auto-scaling, and the VM appliances. We shall also see a range of practical tools to support student level cloud and virtualization projects. In the last part of the talk, I will introduce some of the important research problems related to cloud computing environments with a set of solutions from the state-of-the-art.
