The next frontier in mobile communications: when mobility can be exploited for communications

Speaker:  Silvia Giordano – MANNO ,TI, Switzerland
Topic(s):  Software Engineering and Programming

Abstract

With the proliferation of mobile devices, mobility is becoming part of daily computing and communications. Opportunistic Networking leverages on such mobility for improving communication and for relating it to social people profiles. As opposite to past research, now we are moving toward a research that leverages mobility for improving communication and for relating it to social life. However, there is a collision between such technology vision and new broadband access technologies as LTE, which directly connect our mobile phones. This conflicts with the mobile ad hoc networking vision, where nodes must collaborate for the network communication. However, the pure 4G+ vision is available only in limited areas and has drawbacks. What is the trade-off, and what our future communications will look like?
