The role of automatic tool support in usability and accessibility evaluation of Web applications

Speaker:  Fabio Paterno – Pisa, Italy
Topic(s):  Human Computer Interaction , Software Engineering and Programming , Web, Mobile and Multimedia Technologies

Abstract

Evaluation is an increasingly important part of the user interface design process. However, evaluation can be expensive in terms of time and human resources, and automation is therefore a promising way to augment existing approaches. This talk  discusses how some  evaluation methods can be supported by automation. In particular, discusses how accessibility evaluation can be improved through inspection-based tools and how usability evaluation can be supported through tools able to carry out intelligent analyses of  client-side interaction  logs. Lastly, the lecture discusses possible future work in this area.
