AbstractMobile apps are a very promising tool to promote attitude and behavior change in users. However, creating effective and successful mobile apps for health and safety promotion requires a wealth of multidisciplinary knowledge that includes usability and user experience, persuasion and persuasive technology, health and safety psychology. This talk will first introduce concepts, principles and theories that should be taken into account in the design of persuasive mobile apps for health and safety. It will then focus on how to measure the effectiveness of such apps on users, assessing specific variables that concern attitude change, behavior change, and important predictors of possible future behavior. Through real-world case studies of apps that I have contributed to design, evaluate, and deploy, the talk will show how the presented concepts and models can be exploited in practice. The analyzed apps will deal with different kinds of behaviors that contribute to personal safety and healthy living.
