The Power and Perils of Parallel Streams

Speaker:  Venkat Subramaniam – Broomfield, CO, United States
Topic(s):  Software Engineering and Programming

Abstract

Java 8 makes it really easy to convert a stream to a parallel stream, to run tasks concurrently. When come thing is that easy we tend to ask "what's the catch" and that's a very important question. Just because it's easy does not mean it's the right thing to do. In this presentation we will dive into the benefits of converting a stream to a parallel stream and then discuss the issues we may run into. We will conclude with recommendations on when to use parallel streams and when to avoid them.
