Deceased Organ MatchingSpeaker: Toby Walsh – Kensington, NSW, Australia
Topic(s): Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Natural language processing
AbstractThousands of people in Australia are waiting for a donated kidney. Matching donated organ to people on the waiting list is becoming increasingly challenging as road safety improves. In 1989, the mean age of deceased donors was 32 years. In 2014, this had increased to 46 years. We therefore need to match the age of the organ to the age of the patient more carefully. I describe an ongoing project to design mechanisms that do this, taking care at the same time to be fair to different patients, blood and tissue types, and the different states in Australia.
