The Human Side of Cyber Security

Speaker:  Jennifer Golbeck – College Park, MD, United States
Topic(s):  Human Computer Interaction

Abstract

Security experts often claim that people are the most unreliable part of their systems. I argue that the problem is not people behaving insecurely, but security systems that are designed with no concern for their users. More importantly, the adversarial relationship between cybersecurity professionals and their systems' users is one of the biggest threats to security. In this talk, I discuss the risks organizations face when humans aren’t the center of their security plans and present examples of how security systems designed around users are more secure and lead to happier users.
