Open citations in Informatics

Speaker:  Silvio Peroni – Bologna, Italy
Topic(s):  Web, Mobile and Multimedia Technologies

Abstract

In this talk, I introduce the concept of open citations and how it is strongly tied with that of the Web by presenting the main historical milestones – in terms of standards, guidelines, and services based on Web technologies – that made the release of a vast mass of open citations possible in the last decade. In particular, I present open citations' main characteristics and their use in the context of OpenCitations, a scholarly infrastructure organisation dedicated to open scholarship and the publication of open bibliographic and citation data using Semantic Web technologies. Finally, I focus on the availability of open citations in Computer Science publications, showing the pros and cons of the current status.
