Abstract
The monitorable, “klick-and-go” deployment of software that emerged together with the app stores as well as the wide spread of social media and its commenting culture have changed the way how software is being used. In particular, users (and their data) have become not only more accessible to developers but also more demanding. Accessible users can be supportive for engineering teams: helping, e.g., to shorten the time to reproduce and fix defects or to elicit and prioritize requirements. On the other hand, demanding users can become critical: requiring a bigger say on the software, its quality, and its design.
User feedback intelligence is an approach to help the design and engineering teams cope with these trends. The idea is to systematically involve users by collecting, analyzing, and using their feedback, e.g. for deciding on what to fix, what to develop, or what to release. This lecture presents recent advances in this area including best practices and pitfalls for analyzing and using explicit and implicit user feedback – towards a data-driven requirements engineering, UX design, and evolution of software.
