There is no yellow in this presentation (on Colour and Reality)
Speaker: Steven Pemberton – Amsterdam, NetherlandsTopic(s): Human Computer Interaction
Abstract
There are objective realities, and subjective realities. The objective reality isn't that the sun rises, but that the world turns to face the sun. And yet we still say "the sun rises".
Computer screens objectively can't produce the colour yellow, there really is no yellow there: and yet we still think we see it.
There are surprising reasons why there is such a major difference between the objective reality of colours and how we see them, due to the way our eyes work, because of psychological reasons, and perhaps the most surprising of all, due to the culture we grow up in.
This talk examines the odd ways we experience colour.
