Speaker:  Asif Ekbal – Jodhpur, India
Topic(s):  Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Natural language processing

Abstract

Machine Translation (MT) is one of the most prominent technologies that bridges the gap between the people, speaking in different languages and are from different geographic origins.  India is a multilingual country with great linguistic and cultural diversities. People speak in many different languages, and there is a growing need to make many useful information available in their own vernacular. This talk will briefly introduce the history, importance and application of Machine Translation; and its different paradigms. It will then focus on some of the effective Neural Machine Translation (NMT) techniques used in low-resource machine translation; and the progress on Machine Translation in Indian languages. This will also touch upon some of the research and development, undertaken under the flagship Bhasini mission of the Govt. of India.
