Bio:
Eugenio Cesario is an Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at University of Calabria (Italy). His research interests fall in the broad areas of Data Analytics and Parallel/Distributed Data Mining, and include Urban Computing, Crime Data Mining, Knowledge Discovery applications for Smart Cities, Mobility Data Mining for Smart Transportation, Energy-aware Cloud Computing, Cloud-Grid services architectures. He co-authored over seventy scientific papers in international journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes. He received two best paper awards and a best paper nomination in three international conferences. He has been serving as a chair, organizer, panelist and program committee member of several international conferences.
Before joining University of Calabria, Eugenio Cesario served as Associate Professor in the Computer Science and Software Engineering Department at Monmouth University (NJ, U.S.), from 2018 to 2020. Earlier in his career, he was researcher at the Institute of High Performance Computing and Networks (ICAR-CNR) of the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy, from 2007 to 2018. He also served as an adjunct professor at University of Calabria (Italy) for several years (from 2003 to 2018 ), involved in bachelor and master classes. He received his Ph.D. in Computer and Systems Engineering from the University of Calabria in 2006. From 2003 to 2006 he was a research fellow, at ICAR-CNR, working on data mining systems and applications. In 2005 he was a visiting scholar at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY) working on high-dimensional categorical clustering issues. In 2015, 2016 and 2017 he spent some visiting periods at the Urban Center for Computation and Data (University of Chicago, IL), working on urban data analytics and crime prediction. Also, in 2017 he spent a visiting period at the RDI2 Institute (Department of Computer Science, Rutgers University, NJ), studying scalable solutions for exascale data mining. In 2023 he was visiting professor at New York University (NYU), working on machine learning algorithms for urban data analysis.
He is co-founder and analytics development manager of DtoK Lab (Relatech Group), an academic spin-off of University of Calabria, committed to deliver scalable solutions for Big Data analysis in business domains using Cloud technologies. Also, he is a member of the Scalable Computing & Cloud Laboratory, and the Knowledge Management group at University of Calabria, which supports research, training and development activities in the area of scalable computing and knowledge management.
He is an ACM distinguished speaker since 2023. Check also his website https://scalab.dimes.unical.it/cesario/
