Bio:

Guoliang Xing is currently a Professor in the Department of Information Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research lies at the intersection of systems and Embedded AI, with transformative applications in Internet of Things (IoT), mobile computing, autonomous driving, wireless sensing, and smart health.
Before joining CUHK, Prof. Xing served as a faculty member at City University of Hong Kong and Michigan State University, USA. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Xi’an Jiao Tong University, China, in 1998 and 2001, respectively, and D.Sc. degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 2006. He has published over 200 papers and received multiple honors, including the US NSF CAREER Award, 7 Best Paper Awards, 7 Best Paper Finalist distinctions at top-tier international conferences such as MobiCom, MobiSys, SenSys, ICNP, and IPSN, and recognition as a Fellow of both ACM and IEEE.

Over the past two decades, Prof. Xing has led the development and large-scale field deployment of intelligent systems for roadside infrastructure-assisted autonomous driving, early clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, and real-time volcano monitoring. These systems integrate sensing, edge computing, and machine learning to address real-world challenges in safety, health, and environmental monitoring. Several technologies developed in his lab have been successfully adopted by industry and received major recognition from leading global companies.

Prof. Xing’s service to ACM has been long-standing and integral to his academic career. He currently serves as the Interim Co-Chair of the joint SenSys/IPSN/IoTDI Steering Committee, and Vice Chair of ACM SIGBED China. He has been the General or Program Chair of a number of top-tier conferences, including CPS-IoT Week (2024), ACM SenSys (2022), EWSN (2019 and 2022), IPSN (2016 and 2017). He also serves on editorial boards of ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks and ACM HEALTH.

One of his current priorities is co-leading a strategic initiative to unify SenSys, IPSN, and IoTDI into a single flagship ACM/IEEE conference on Embedded AI and Sensing Systems, enhancing the coherence and global visibility of this growing field. This effort reflects Prof. Xing’s commitment to strengthening community structure and enhancing the global visibility of the field.

As an ACM Distinguished Speaker, Prof. Xing aims to share insights on embedded intelligence, infrastructure innovation, and mobile health with global audiences. He believes deeply in communicating research beyond academia, and has delivered invited talks across Asia, Europe, and North America to both technical and interdisciplinary audiences. He looks forward to using this platform to connect with students, practitioners, and researchers worldwide, and to help shape the next generation of ideas at the intersection of computing and society.
