Abstract
This tutorial covers all the main concepts behind search: relevance, retrieval models, quality evaluation, indexing and ranking. At the same time, we explain all the elements of the architecture of a search system as well as its main application, web search, addressing all possible scalability issues. The material is based on the second edition of Modern Information Retrieval, published by Addison Wesley in 2011, and co-authored by the presenter.
