Abstract
The ability to write clear prose to communicate ideas is an essential 21st century skill. Washington accord, the international accreditation agreement for undergraduate professional engineering academic degrees between various local accreditation bodies, lists “an ability to communicate effectively, orally as well as in writing, on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large” as an essential graduate attribute. Inadequate writing ability is a career-limiting deficiency that can put a researcher at a significant disadvantage. Opaque writing, apart from hurting the chances of the authors, also is inconvenient for the readers and the community in general. In this talk, we will introduce a number of high-level yet concrete steps that aspiring researchers can take to improve their written communication abilities.
