Project Kiwrious: Activating Curious and Fearless Problem Solvers
Speaker: Suranga Chandima Nanayakkara – Auckland, New ZealandTopic(s): Human Computer Interaction
Abstract
Project Kiwrious (a wordplay on Curious) aims to democratize and empower science education for young New Zealand students, primarily in low socio-economic schools. Kiwrios low cost plug and play sensors make invisible natural phenomena visible, encouraging children’s innate curiosity to investigate their body, their pets, and their environment, and to understand and share their student-driven knowledge with others. Feedback from the students (~6500) and teachers (~70) from our first national pilot shows that Kiwrious is changing the way science is taught and learned. This talk will share the journey of project Kiwrious from a lab research project into a not-for-profit initiative with the mission of delivering Kiwrious experience globally, enabling a generation of fearless problem solvers.About this Lecture
