Paper writing 101: So you want/need to write an SE paper?
Speaker: John Grundy – Melbourne, AustraliaTopic(s): Software Engineering and Programming
Abstract
This is an advice talk aimed originally at final year Software Engineering Bachelors Honors students, but has been given to PhD, Masters and other undergraduate Software Engineering and wider Information Technology student groups. I reflect on the purpose of writing academic papers to disseminate research findings. I talk briefly about different kinds of academic papers and try to share my own “writing approach” with concrete steps and tips. I use a worked example case study paper if time permits to show how the tips are applied in practice. I try and run with a degree of interactivity with the audience and can contextualise it to level, experience and domain.About this Lecture
