Speaker: Salvador Elias Venegas-Andraca – Mexico City, MexicoTopic(s): Society and the Computing Profession
Abstract
Quantum is everywhere: newspapers, magazines, technical journals, and social media talk about the power and distinctiveness of quantum technology. For business leaders, it is only natural to wonder about the potential impact of this technology in their organizations. Will quantum computers make our data unsafe? Would quantum cryptography be suitable for midsize companies? Will quantum communications need an independent infrastructure or can both quantum and digital coexist?
In this lecture, I shall start by focusing on the fundamental properties and the technology readiness levels of quantum computers, communications, cryptography, and sensors, that is, the quantum ecosystem. Then, I will discuss the roadmaps as well as several potential applications of quantum technology in computation, cryptography, and communications. Finally, I will talk about the estimate value of the quantum ecosystem and some of the main players to be followed. The last part of this talk will be devoted to answer questions in order to help the audience to identify next steps towards making quantum technology a competitive advantage for their firms.
This lecture is aimed at business executives and public servants interested in learning about the quantum ecosystem as a portfolio of advanced technologies for further advancing the goals of their organizations. The lecture is delivered in plain language with very limited scientific jargon.
