Technology for meaningful work

Speaker:  Marc Hassenzahl – Siegen, Germany
Topic(s):  Human Computer Interaction

Abstract

For most people, work is more than just solving tasks as efficiently as possible in exchange for a salary – work has to be enjoyable and meaningful on a day-to-day basis. When we think of meaningful work, we usually first think of work organization, the content of specific tasks or a chat in the coffee kitchen – information technology tends to play a subordinate role.

Using case studies from radiology, shift planning and automation, I will show how the design of work equipment can be geared not only to supposed efficiency gains, but also to the well-being of the workers.
