Theory in Human-Computer Interaction

Speaker:  Kasper Hornbæk – Copenhagen, Denmark
Topic(s):  Human Computer Interaction

Abstract

Theory is supposed to be central to science. Yet, the field of human-computer interaction (HCI) seems confused about what theory is and what to do with it. In this talk, I will present some data about what we do with theory in HCI. I will also discuss some ideas about what we could do with theory. This discussion has implications for what we should be doing as a field, as well as in our individual research.
