Speaker: Nishanth Sastry – London, United KingdomTopic(s): Web, Mobile and Multimedia Technologies
Abstract
Web and Social Media offer powerful means for citizens to connect directly with their elected represent, but online harms such as hateful or partisan speech present an important threat to meaningful online discourse, both in political and apolitical contexts. This talk will present our recent measurement-based efforts that show how these negative aspects of our online lives are affecting web users in major countries around the world such as UK and USA, and discuss ways to address the problems.About this Lecture
