Bio:

Kenny Mitchell is a part-time full professor of video games technology with Edinburgh Napier University and is an outstanding scientist and practitioner in the creative industries. 

Most recently for Roblox, he led engagement of the Metaverse to a ~$40Bn valuation with >70m daily active users in his role leading the rendering features team to develop the platform to new levels of real-time photorealism as a strategic company investment. As a Disney Imagineer, he historically founded Disney Research in the UK and assisted Star Wars digital acting research with Industrial Light and Magic London, and prior to that lead video game engine developments for Electronic Arts with game franchises including Harry Potter, Monopoly and Steven Spielberg's BAFTA award winning Boom Blox.

He is co-founder of 3Finery Ltd as part-time CTO, a spinout of Edinburgh Napier University, delivering a new way to help people be together and play through Intermediated Reality, eXtended reality games, conversational AI avatars, and applications including MagiPeeps and LisNav. Further, he is part-time CTO of Cobra Simulation Ltd, an immersive display hardware company disrupting immersive simulation and video games content, including a new optimized representation of generative AI graphics called VoxSpars for Cobra World digital twins going beyond NERFs, Gaussian Splatting, etc.

He is consortium research lead for the prestigious European funded future emerging technology pathfinder project on low-latency online dance interaction called, CAROUSEL. Kenny holds around 50 patents and has published over 100 technical papers.

For the Association of Computing Machinery, he is editor-in-chief of ACM GAMES: Research and Practice journal and magazine, associate editor of the proceedings of the ACM Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques journal (PACMCGIT), and further serves on the ACM SIGGRAPH Conference Advisory Group (ACM CAG). In addition, he is associate editor of Elsevier Computers and Graphics journal and serves on many program committees. 

He has a wealth of recognized excellence in globally high income commercial delivery across the highest levels of technology for video games, movie visual effects, consumer products and Themepark attractions. He graduated with an honors degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from Edinburgh University.
