Telepresence in Education
Speaker: Jennifer Rode – London, United KingdomTopic(s): Human Computer Interaction
Abstract
Telepresence robots are meant to provide physical access to spaces allowing increased immersion for remote users as compared to Zoom or Skype. Telepresence has compelling implications for education. In this talk, I examine telepresence limitations and abilities in the context of the classroom. I discussed the extent to which telepresence robots make classroom participation richer and the way that robots themselves have limitations that are experienced as disabilities for their users. I discuss how telepresence increases the opportunity for equity and education for a range of minoritize people including those with disabilities, parents and those who need a low-cost alternative to face-to-face meetings.About this Lecture
