Wearable Technology in the Wild
Speaker: Judy Bowen – Hamilton, New ZealandTopic(s): Human Computer Interaction , Software Engineering and Programming
Abstract
Advances in wearable technology have seen us progress from simple step counters to complex health monitoring devices integrated into watches and smart vests. As technology and algorithmic analysis continue to evolve there are still many challenges that need to be addressed before we can fully maximise the benefits of wearables in our everyday lives. In this talk I discuss a six-year project looking at wearable devices for fatigue monitoring in hazardous industries and discuss the insights and challenges that emerged. This leads into a discussion of how we can use this knowledge to do better and how we can understand real-world design implications of wearables, IoT and smart systems.About this Lecture
