Abstract
Large Language Models (LLMs) are transforming how we access, produce, and understand information on the Web yet the distance between their contexts of creation and use is growing rapidly. This talk invites reflection on what happens when technologies trained on the Web begin to shape it in return. Drawing on questions of data governance, privacy, copyright, and global equity, the talk examines how the integration of LLMs into search engines and digital ecosystems redefines the flow of information, creativity, and economic opportunity often amplifying biases and concentrating power in regions far from where impacts are most deeply felt. Building on the Responsible and Inclusive Technology Framework, the session highlights how critical reflection on contexts, power dynamics, and social impacts can guide responsible innovation. It challenges technocentric approaches and calls for governance mechanisms that ensure transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in the age of generative AIÑbefore the Web retrains itself into a mirror we can no longer trust.About this Lecture
